Summary

To facilitate growth, Bell Media is looking for a Senior Solution Architect responsible for driving the transformation of Bell Media’s broadcast infrastructure to a fully IP-based, software-controlled environment.  The candidate will play a key role in the design, development and evolution of the broadcast infrastructure, and lead innovation with "out of the box" thinking in order to perfect the technological ecosystem according to new industry standards.  Reporting to the Senior Manager, Broadcast engineering, the solution architect's priorities are driven to Support Bell’s technological evolution and strategic objectives trough domain specific technical design. 
The candidate will use agile methodology in the implementation of the development and release process, and embody our Network 3.0 values that encourage collaboration, making problems visible, and supporting, and serving our employees and customers

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads complex engagements and works directly with project teams to develop budgets, timelines and manage expectations.
  • Conceptualize system designs and determine system requirements based on business process analysis and requirement.
  • Provide technical expertise and coordination to support the development and customization of complex systems solution to address business requirements.
  • Develop detailed design documentation strategy based on established engineering standard practices. 
  • Research, identify, and recommend technology options.
  • Support projects and teams in the execution and deployment phase. 
  • Provide regular project engineering milestone status updates.
  • Maintain expertise in the industry through ongoing review of publications, participation in industry trade shows, seminars, and educational forums.

Key Functions:

  • Examines current technologies used within Bell Media and finds ways to improve.
  • Guide the development and evolution of Bell Media Broadcast systems.
  • Propose and establish a framework to promote the contributions of the various departments.
  • Work with other technology teams in order to facilitate the integration for new broadcast infrastructure and software.
  • Use tools, technology and various methodologies to create functional and intuitive solutions.
  • Promote the integration of systems and their sustainability within the infrastructure in place.
  • Manage all phases of technology development.
  • Suggest and implement solutions for process improvement.

Critical Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or 10+ years experience in developing and designing large-scale solutions and infrastructure, serving as an expert in technical architecture.
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast technology, equipment, facilities, and production systems used in the Broadcast industry. Formats include high-definition, UHD and HDR video systems deployed using SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP transport protocols.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP protocol, ACL’s, QoS, VLAN’s and Network OSI model.
  • Strong knowledge in broadcast workflow.
  • Experience storage platforms.
  • Experience with broadcast distribution systems.
  • Experience with streaming video knowledge, including transcode, CDN, DRM.
  • Experience in SQL databases.
  • Knowledge in Cloud environment.
  • Strong time management skills and work ethic (self-governing) to manage multiple projects/accountabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and communicate concise succinct messages.
  • High level of problems solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
