The creative freedom to innovate as a new grad
Q: Tell us about yourself.
I am a recent software engineering graduate from Ontario Tech university with a passion for developing reliable and innovative software solutions. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering in May of 2022 and have been enrolled in the Graduate Leadership Program here at Bell since. I currently work as a software engineer for the Video On Demand Platform team which consists of supporting all VOD infrastructure as well as innovating the future of VOD at Bell. Previously, I have also interned at Bell for 2 summer terms.

Q: What made you apply to the Bell Graduate Leadership Program (GLP) as a university student?
When I was considering places to apply during my final year as a university student Bell was definitely a standout company. This is because I personally know multiple people who entered the company through the Grad Leadership Program and each of them had nothing but good things to say about the program. In addition to this, I had previously already interned for Bell so I had experience within the company. This, in combination with all the good things I heard about the GLP, I decided to apply to this program.
Q: How has Bell supported your growth in the high tech space?
Bell has been an exceptional supporter of my growth in the high tech space. Throughout my time at Bell, the company has provided numerous opportunities for professional development, including workshops, training sessions, and access to cutting-edge technologies. Additionally, the collaborative and innovative work environment at Bell has allowed me to work on challenging projects alongside seasoned engineers, enabling me to continuously enhance my skills and expand my knowledge in the ever-evolving high tech industry. Bell’s commitment to nurturing talent has been instrumental in shaping my career trajectory within the organization.
Q: What is the coolest project you've worked on?
I had the privilege to work on a transformational endeavor where my team and I were given complete creative freedom to reinvent a legacy system using modern technologies. Throughout the project, we explored cutting-edge technologies including various open-source technologies. Having the creative freedom to innovate and push the boundaries of traditional development practices made this project not only intellectually stimulating but also deeply rewarding. The project still continues today but witnessing our team's collaborative efforts come to life in the form of a robust and modernized system has been a highlight of my career at Bell so far.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you have received from a Bell team member that has helped you in your professional development?
The best advice I received from a Bell team member was to "embrace continuous learning and to not be afraid to seek guidance." This advice has been instrumental in my professional growth, encouraging me to stay curious, expand my skills through learning opportunities, and seek mentorship from experienced colleagues. It has empowered me to tackle challenging projects with confidence and foster a collaborative work environment within my team.
Q: How would you describe your experience in the Graduate Leadership Program in 3 words?
Transformative. Empowering. Collaborative.
