Soaring to new heights: Celebrating Black History at Bell
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) often serve as an essential pillar within corporations, creating spaces of belonging and empowerment, particularly for underrepresented groups. The Black Professionals at Bell Employee Resource Group (BPB ERG) is one such vibrant community that has fostered an inclusive environment and provided avenues for the professional and personal development of its members. Let's explore how the BPB ERG is making a tangible difference at Bell, as seen through the experiences of two of its prominent members, Jacqueline Hamilton and Kevin Gooden.
Building a Community of Support and Belonging
Jacqueline:
As one of the founding members, I see the difference it makes to all our employees; in the black community as well as allies. The ERG provides a safe space to discuss unique challenges faced by the black community and to look for solutions together. It also provides targeted development and mentorship programs to ensure all employees are set up for success. By bringing forums such as webcasts and podcasts that bring awareness to the larger Bell community, all employees can gain the insight and knowledge they need to be more knowledgeable, more empathetic and more self aware and to contribute to an environment of inclusivity at Bell.
Kevin:
It has been truly a great experience for me personally being a part of the BPB employee resource group (ERG), serving in different capacities to ultimately serving as Co-Chair. As we grow and develop over the years it has been fulfilling to see activities move from thoughts/plans to execution and to see the joy and engagement experienced by our members whether its a learning activity or networking event. I have had the opportunity to work closely with the leadership team to advocate for diversity and inclusion initiatives within the company. This has allowed us to have a voice in decision-making processes and influence positive changes that benefit all employees.

Reflecting on Progress and Evolution
Jacqueline:
Executive support has increased year over year, as we continue to see the positive impact of DEIB programs and ERGs on employees. Membership continues to grow, with members becoming more and more active in events, outreach programs and even strategy. We have been able to leveraging sponsorship and ambassadorship to more significantly impact the black community outside of Bell.
Key Drivers of ERG Success
Kevin:
Two drivers guide our success. First, people, such as committee members and general membership, has inspired and supported our actions to better meet their needs. Secondly, the quality of the activities undertaken and delivered timely to address the needs of our member. We constantly seek feedback to both measure what we have done, so that we can improve and to identify new activities to undertake.
Celebrating Black Excellence and History
Kevin:
This time of year is where we pull out all the stops, it's our time to shine! We are taking it up a notch this year with our theme "Soaring to New Heights". From our opening event to our closing event, we have organized trailblazing guest speakers both internal and external to Bell. We have also organized fun events, networking opportunities, we have prizes and surprises and we cant leave out our food and music.

Emphasis on professional and personal growth
Jacqueline:
For employees to thrive, they must feel they belong. BPB provides the resources, insight, knowledge and network to learn, engage and grow. The team is always ready to help the external community as well. People want to be part of an organization that is committed to creating a better community and the work being done by BPB is a crucial part of that equation.
