Q: Tell us about yourself

My name is Nicole and I am currently a Senior Manager, Artificial Intelligence within the Customer Experience Data Engineering & AI department. My team supports Data Engineering and AI use cases for Field Services.

I started at Bell as an intern in the Field Services Business Intelligence program while I was studying Mechanical Engineering at McGill University. I had a great experience during my internship and came back full time as a Business Intelligence Analyst following my graduation.

Throughout my time at Bell I had the opportunity to lead a team of Control Centre Associates and support various analytical and ML initiatives including the WiFi, Outage and Self Install Programs, ML Virtual Repair and other process optimization related ML initiatives.

Q: What made you apply to the Bell Internship Program as a university/college student?

I was looking for something where I could use my analytical/technical skills but was not strictly “Mechanical Engineering”. I was also hoping for an established intern program where there was a clear progression/path to further development and many more opportunities for learning.

Q: What was your path into studying/working in high tech?

Growing up, STEM subjects always made sense to me, I had an interest in using Math/Science to solve problems so studying Engineering was a logical choice for me.

If you asked me during University, where I would be now, the answer would not be working in Machine Learning. I had a STEM background and research experience from McGill but did not really have any exposure to Machine Learning before working at Bell.

I was extremely fortunate during my time at Bell to develop the technical skills & business knowledge that I now use in my day to day.

Q: What is the coolest project you've worked on?

A bit of a shameless plug here, but a very cool project I just started working on is ML Virtual Repair. The team has built a Machine Learning model to help customers troubleshoot Internet, TV and Home Phone issues via Virtual Repair on the MyBell/Virgin Plus app.

This greatly expands the scope of issues that can be troubleshot virtually and provides us with insight on what corrective actions are most effective in solving customer’s issues.
